Airfare

Airfare

I absolutely could not live my life without this one travel resource: Scott’s Cheap Flights.

Let’s face it, the biggest cost of traveling is airfare. Scott’s Cheap Flights is hands down, by far the best resource for international sales on fares. AND IT’S FREE. All they do is send you an email notification when there is a great price or mistake fare on international flights and then tell you how to book it!! There is no obligation to book and they aren’t trying to sell you anything. There is a free subscription and a paid subscription which is more personalized but definitely not necessary. In 2017, I booked a $500 flight from Knoxville to Budapest utilizing the free subscription. Still totally legit. You have my word that they will not send you spam mail or any “deals” with fine print or conditional offers. You can easily sign up for the free version to try it out and then subscribe later, which is what I did!

My budget airline: Southwest

Southwest has amazed me so many times. They have amazed my friends and family over and over and I will continue to swear by them until they give me a reason not to. The perks? One free carry-on bag plus a personal item such as a purse, two free checked bags, no change fees (other than the difference in the fare price) and no cancellation fees so you receive a Southwest credit for the amount of the fare if you cancel (more than 24 hours before departure). They also send free on board drink coupons to members and they wont nickel and dime you to death like most other budget airlines. What more could you ask for? I just don’t know how they do it!

My medium grade airline: JetBlue

JetBlue. Their planes are generally pretty nice and well-kept and I’ve had some pretty smooth rides with them. No complaints. If you able to receive any type of perks through your employer, do it! I have a True Blue Mosaic status through my employer which allows anyone on my itinerary free cancellation, two free checked bags, and free alcohol on board. I guess traveling with me does have its advantages! Check with your employer!

My standard airline: Controversial, but I tend to veer toward Delta.

Even though I’ve had delays with them, they have always done their best to solve problems and make me happy. Which is always a plus in my book. I also receive some membership perks from Delta, but these still don’t compare to the two above.

If I can get there using one of these 3 airlines then I will generally pay slightly more for that flight due to the benefits that they offer and rewards that I receive.
